SURGE COUNTER AND CURRENT METER
Surge Monitor is a device to count the No. of Surges /discharges across the surge arrester and also measure the leakage current using an milli-ammeter. It can count the surges of low intensity also i.e. as low as 100A. The leakage current drawn is a measure of soundness (healthiness) of the surge arrester. The leakage current in the red band between 2mA to 5mA of the meter indicates the deterioration of the metal oxide elements. The Qualitative information regarding the arrester health obtained from the milli-ammeter helps the user to take preventative measures before the arrester failure as the ammeter reading is not an absolute value.

CONNECTING CABLE
Insulated Aluminium cable of 35 Sq.mm cross section for 42kV & below and 70Sq.mm insulated copper cable is adequate as a connecting lead to connect the Surge arrester to Surge Monitor for 132kV, 220kV, 400kV and 765kV arresters.
DISCONNECTOR
In Case of Distribution Class Arresters, Disconnectors are used for disconnecting the Ground lead from the arrester to avoid: Supply Interruption, Violent shattering of arresters and also provides visual indication of the failed arrester to effect timely replacement.
Grading ring
The metallic rings hanging down from the top of the arrester will ensure that the electric field surrounding the arrester is as linear as possible to distribute the voltage along the length of the arrester.
Insulating base
Insulating provide insulation between the surge arrester to structure
